The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has launched an inquiry into the suspicious access of a mobile phone by Juhad Hameed Shakeel Manna, a suspected ISIS operative, at Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara Central Prison. The probe comes as authorities are under fire for allowing prisoners to possess mobile phones and other contraband inside the facility. According to officials, the NIA's primary goal is to determine how Manna obtained a mobile phone and identify those he contacted from within the jail. The investigation team questioned Manna separately in a high-security block, without disrupting the normal functioning of the prison. The visit has sparked further scrutiny of Karnataka's prison administration, following the release of leaked videos showing inmates using mobile phones, watching TV, and consuming alcohol inside their cells. While prison officials have dismissed the leaks as a conspiracy to discredit them, the controversy has raised concerns about the management of the state's prisons. Separately, a man with a history of terror-related charges was questioned in Tumakuru in connection with the November 10 Delhi car blast that killed 12 people. Hussain Mujauddin, who was released after no evidence was found linking him to the attack, was previously arrested in 2016 for alleged links to banned organisations and for trying to recruit youngsters to join them. Mujauddin was lodged in Tihar Jail in Delhi for six years before being released and returning to Tumakuru, where he has been living a quiet life in the Tilak Park area. The NIA's renewed interest in the case suggests a possible connection between the Delhi blast investigation and the alleged prison irregularities.
