A shocking case of evasion has come to an end in India, with the apprehension of Gaurav Kumar, 27, accused of murdering a senior journalist and his 92-year-old mother in 2017. Kumar, a native of Pippala village in Bulandshahr district, was working as a security manager in a Noida housing society when he was finally tracked down by the police on November 6. According to authorities, Kumar had been on the run for three years after his initial arrest in 2017 for the double murder of KJ Singh, 64, and his mother Gurcharan Kaur in Punjab's Mohali. He had stolen the journalist's car to escape at the time. Kumar was released on bail during the COVID-19 pandemic but failed to appear in court, leading to his declaration as a proclaimed offender in 2022. However, the police were able to re-arrest him after a member of the residential society requested background verification, which prompted a thorough investigation. The police had been tracking Kumar for several months prior to his arrest, which was carried out by a special team led by SI Balwinder Singh. The district police have made significant progress in recent months, with 120 proclaimed offenders arrested in the past four months alone. The case highlights the importance of thorough background checks, particularly in high-risk professions such as security management. It also underscores the dedication and perseverance of law enforcement agencies in bringing fugitives to justice, no matter how long it takes.
