Bihar Election Results 2025: BJP's Vijay Kumar Khemka Takes Lead in Purnia, INC's Jitendra Kumar Trails

The Bihar Election Commission has announced that the results for the 243 assembly seats will be declared today, November 14, 2025. The counting of votes has begun, and the state anxiously awaits the outcome of the two-phase polls. In Purnia, the fourth-largest city in Bihar, nine candidates, including BJP's Vijay Kumar Khemka and INC's Jitendra Kumar, are vying for the seat. Purnia witnessed two phases of voting, with the first phase taking place on November 6 for 121 constituencies and the second phase on November 11 for the remaining 122 constituencies. The city is situated near the confluence of the Kosi and Mahananda rivers. In the 2020 assembly elections, Vijay Kumar Khemka of the BJP won the seat, defeating Indu Sinha of the INC. This year, the ruling NDA, comprising the BJP, JD(U), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), and smaller parties, holds 132 MLAs. The RJD has 75 MLAs, the Congress has 19 MLAs, and the CPI(ML)-Liberation has 12. The newly launched Jan Suraaj Party, JSP of Prashant Kishor, is also contesting the state elections for the first time. As the votes are counted, residents of Purnia are eager to know if Vijay Kumar Khemka will retain the seat or if Jitendra Kumar will pull off an upset victory.
