In a remarkable achievement, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has hailed the recent Bihar Assembly Election as the 'best-ever performance' under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The election, which concluded with a voter turnout of 67.13 per cent, set a new record since 1951. The two-phase election, which took place on November 11, witnessed a massive victory for the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government. The poll agency reported zero complaints of re-polls and zero appeals during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar. This is a testament to the smooth conduct of the election. The ECI revealed that not a single candidate out of 2,616 contesting the 243 seats in the state requested re-polls. Similarly, 12 recognized political parties also refrained from requesting re-polls. The poll agency published the final electoral list on October 1, comprising 7.42 crore voters, with 47 lakh names excluded from the initial list. The draft roll of the SIR was published on August 1, removing 65.6 lakh names from the rolls. Following verification and objections, another 3.66 lakh names were removed, while 21.5 lakh names were added. The ECI's success in Bihar is a significant milestone in the history of Indian elections.
