In a closely watched contest, Pushpam Priya Chaudhary, founder of the Plurals Party, is trailing behind Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) heavyweight Sanjay Saraogi in the Darbhanga constituency of Bihar. According to the Election Commission, Saraogi is leading with over 48,000 votes. The Darbhanga constituency has been a BJP stronghold for nearly two decades, with Saraogi representing the seat since 2005. The 55-year-old BJP leader, who serves as Bihar's Cabinet Minister for Revenue and Land Reforms, is seeking a fifth consecutive term. Pushpam Priya Chaudhary, a master's degree holder from the University of Sussex and London School of Economics, launched the Plurals Party ahead of the 2020 Bihar elections. Her entry into the Darbhanga contest signals her continued ambition to offer a reform-focused alternative to Bihar's established political blocs. The Bihar assembly polls were held in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with counting scheduled for November 14. The outcome of the Darbhanga contest will be closely watched as a test of whether a new-age, reformist political face can challenge a traditional BJP bastion.
