The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has taken a significant lead in the early trends of the Bihar assembly elections 2025, surpassing the majority mark of 122 seats and heading towards a potential 200-mark. The NDA, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)), has already secured over 185 seats, while the opposition Mahagathbandhan, led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress, trails behind with around 49 seats. In a closely contested battle for the single-largest party spot, the BJP and JD(U) are locked in a tight fight, with the BJP leading in at least 87 seats and the JD(U) ahead in at least 77 seats. The JD(U) has been a key player in the NDA, and its performance will be crucial in determining the alliance's prospects. The counting of votes began at 8 am on Friday, with the Election Commission of India (ECI) tallying the results from across the state. The early leads are not indicative of the final outcome, and a clearer picture is expected to emerge as the EVM votes are counted throughout the day. The Bihar assembly elections saw a high voter turnout of 67.13%, with the highest polling percentage recorded since 1951. The main contenders in the elections are the NDA and the Mahagathbandhan, with Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD being the chief ministerial face of the opposition alliance. The NDA had narrowly retained power in the 2020 assembly elections, winning 125 seats, while the Mahagathbandhan, led by Tejashwi Yadav, secured 110 seats and emerged as the single-largest party. The JD(U) has been a key player in the NDA, and its performance will be crucial in determining the alliance's prospects. Most exit polls had projected a comfortable NDA win, but some predicted a tough fight with a narrow edge to the BJP-JD(U) combine. The final outcome will depend on the performance of the JD(U) and the BJP in the state.
