In a major blow to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Lalu Yadav's daughter Rohini Acharya has announced her exit from politics, citing a desire to 'disown' her family after the party's dismal performance in the recent Bihar assembly polls. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has swept the polls, securing a landslide victory with 202 seats in the 243-member state assembly. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the largest party, winning 89 seats, while its ally, the Janata Dal (United) led by Nitish Kumar, secured 85 seats. Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) also made a significant impact, winning 19 out of 29 seats contested. In contrast, the RJD, led by Tejashwi Yadav, suffered a significant setback, securing only 25 seats, down from 75 in the previous polls. The BJP's performance improved significantly, with the party increasing its seat share from 74 in 2020 to 89 in 2025. The JD(U) made the biggest jump, from 45 seats in 2020 to 85 this time. Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD leader and Mahagathbandhan's chief ministerial face, retained his stronghold Raghopur by defeating BJP's Satish Kumar for the third consecutive term. However, his party's overall performance was marred by a significant decline in seat share. Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party, which fielded candidates in most constituencies, failed to open its account in the 2025 assembly polls despite portraying itself as a viable alternative. The NDA's victory has sparked celebrations, with Chirag Paswan meeting Bihar CM Nitish Kumar to discuss the alliance's future. Paswan expressed satisfaction that Kumar had acknowledged the role of all NDA allies in the polls. He also alleged that a 'false narrative' was created about the LJP(RV) and JD(U) during the campaign.
