A 40-year-old woman from Rajasthan's Bikaner has been arrested for allegedly strangling her newborn son just hours after he was born at a government hospital. Guddi Devi, a mother of four, delivered a healthy baby boy on Thursday night but allegedly took the baby's life between 2am and 4am in the maternity ward. Guddi's family has been facing severe financial hardships and her husband, Tara Chand, has been bedridden after a brain haemorrhage. The couple's relatives have claimed that Guddi was under mental and emotional strain, which may have led to the tragic incident. Hospital staff reported suspicious behavior from the family, saying that they did not come to take the baby for several hours after birth and that Guddi had not undergone any medical check-ups during her pregnancy. A postmortem confirmed that the infant was strangled, and a murder case has been registered against Guddi Devi. She is currently undergoing treatment and will be arrested once discharged.
