In a significant development ahead of the Bihar government formation, key leaders from the Janata Dal (United) party met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in New Delhi. The closed-door meeting, attended by BJP president JP Nadda, lasted for over three hours and discussed crucial aspects of the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) preparations for the new government. According to sources, the meeting centered around the allocation of ministerial portfolios to NDA constituents and the selection of the Assembly Speaker. This comes as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the JD(U) supremo, has begun the process of forming the new NDA government in Bihar. On Monday, Kumar met Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and recommended the dissolution of the outgoing Assembly, which is set to take effect on November 19. The next day, Kumar will meet the governor to tender his resignation and a letter of support from all NDA constituents. The JD(U) has announced that Kumar will be elected as the legislature party leader on November 19, a day before taking oath as the Bihar Chief Minister for a record 10th time. The swearing-in ceremony, scheduled to take place at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several top NDA leaders. The NDA secured a landslide victory in the recent Bihar Assembly elections, winning 202 seats in the 243-member House. The BJP emerged as the largest party, winning 89 seats, followed by its ally, the JD(U), which secured 85 seats. The Lok Janshakti Party, headed by Union minister Chirag Paswan, won 19 seats, while the INDIA bloc, comprising opposition parties, managed to win only 34 seats. The newly formed NDA government is expected to be sworn in with a strong mandate, following the decisive victory in the Bihar Assembly elections. The key portfolios and leadership positions in the new government are likely to be allocated in the coming days, with the JD(U) and BJP expected to play crucial roles in the decision-making process.
