Imphal, India - Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary B.L. Santosh and Northeast in-charge Sambit Patra have arrived in Imphal for a three-day visit to assess the ongoing political situation in Manipur. The visit has sparked speculation about the potential restoration of a popular government in the state, which has been under President's Rule since February 13. The BJP leaders' visit comes after a meeting in New Delhi, where 26 BJP MLAs from Manipur urged the central leadership to reinstate an elected administration, citing concerns about governance and public confidence. According to party officials, Santosh and Patra will hold meetings with BJP legislators, office-bearers, and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MLAs to discuss the way forward for restoring political stability and improving coordination among coalition partners. During their visit, the BJP leaders are also expected to meet Kuki community MLAs in Churachandpur to gather feedback on the ground situation and inter-community relations. Former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, who resigned on February 8, has been advocating for the formation of a new popular government, emphasizing the need for a representative government to rebuild trust and stability in the state ahead of the 2027 Manipur Legislative Assembly election. The visit has reignited hopes among Manipur's residents for the restoration of a popular government, which they believe will address pressing issues such as the rehabilitation of displaced people and free movement along national highways. As the BJP leaders engage with various stakeholders, the fate of Manipur's administration hangs in the balance, awaiting a decision that will impact the state's future.
