The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has suspended former union minister RK Singh and BJP MLC Ashoke Agarwal, citing 'anti-party' activities, just a day after the party's landslide victory in the Bihar elections. According to sources, Singh's suspension is due to his repeated allegations against BJP leaders, which the party has deemed detrimental to its image. RK Singh, a seasoned politician and former IAS officer, has had a storied career. A 1975 batch bureaucrat, Singh has served as the Union Home Secretary and Minister of New and Renewable Energy. He has also been a Member of Parliament from Bihar's Arrah constituency and held key positions in the state government under Nitish Kumar's leadership. Singh's tenure as district magistrate in Samastipur in 1990 is notable for his decision to arrest BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani during his Rath Yatra. Singh's actions were seen as a demonstration of his strict adherence to the law. In 2015, Singh made headlines for accusing the BJP of fielding 'criminals' in the Bihar assembly polls. He also alleged that the party's Bihar leadership had accepted money in exchange for distributing tickets. The BJP's decision to suspend Singh comes as a surprise, given the party's recent electoral success in Bihar. However, the move is seen as an attempt by the party to maintain discipline and unity within its ranks.
