Chennai is on high alert after bomb threat emails were sent to the residences of three DMK ministers, sparking a massive police response. The emails, which were later found to be hoaxes, targeted state minister Sekar Babu, minister of education Anbil Mahesh, and minister of municipal administration KN Nehru. This is the latest in a series of bomb threat emails that have flooded the city over the past seven months, with police receiving a staggering 343 such emails. According to Chennai police commissioner A Arun, the emails often share similar language patterns and are suspected to be sent by locals using virtual private networks (VPNs) and dark web browsers to conceal their IP addresses. In some cases, the senders have even used popular email services like Gmail and Hotmail. While the threats have been deemed hoaxes, police are taking no chances. Each case has resulted in either a community service register (CSR) or a first information report (FIR) being filed. The anti-terror squad (ATS) unit is leading the investigation into these emails, which have also targeted other high-profile individuals, schools, and institutions across the state. The latest incident comes just a month after a series of bomb threat emails were sent to the residences of chief minister MK Stalin, governor RN Ravi, the Bharatiya Janata Party's Tamil Nadu unit, and actress Trisha. Similar incidents have also occurred in the past, including a bomb threat at the enforcement directorate's office in Chennai on October 31. While police are working to identify the perpetrators, they urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The investigation is ongoing, and police are determined to bring those responsible to justice.
