Budaun Horrific Rape: 14-Year-Old Forced to Abort, 6 Booked; Hunt On

A 14-year-old class 9 student from a Budaun village was allegedly raped repeatedly by her 35-year-old uncle, who recorded the act and used it to exploit her further. The perpetrator, identified as Somveer alias Bhola, also forced the victim to undergo an abortion after collecting ₹3.40 lakh from the accused's side as 'compensation' through a panchayat. The village elders, instead of supporting the victim, warned her family against approaching the police and fixed her marriage with a 45-year-old relative. The victim's family took her for a medical examination on September 19, only to discover she was five months pregnant. Despite this, the panchayat compelled her to undergo an abortion at a private hospital in Bagrai town, performed by a quack. The family was assured that the abortion expenses would be covered from the collected sum, with the rest to be spent on the wedding. However, the victim's father refused to marry her off and approached the local police station to register a complaint. After a month-long delay, the police finally registered an FIR against six people, including the rape accused, four individuals who organised the panchayat, and the quack who carried out the illegal abortion. Additional SP Hridyesh Kumar Katheria confirmed that the FIR has been registered under the POCSO Act and other sections. The police are now on the lookout for the absconding accused, who is still at large.
