A devastating blast at the Nowgam police station in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday claimed the lives of 11 people and injured dozens. The accident occurred while a team was sampling explosives, which had been seized from a terrorist module led by the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The blast, which was strong enough to be heard across Srinagar, also damaged nearby vehicles and residential houses. The Central Forensic Science Laboratories (CFSL) and bomb disposal squad of the National Security Guards (NSG) visited the site on Sunday to collect evidence and determine the cause of the blast. The CFSL teams from Delhi and Chandigarh, along with the NSG's bomb disposal squad, inspected the area, collected samples, and spoke with local officials. The explosive materials, weighing 360 kg, had been brought from Faridabad after a massive haul of 3,000 kg of explosives, including ammonium nitrate, was seized from the JeM-led 'white collar terror module.' Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has announced a magisterial probe into the incident, ruling out any terror angle. He stated that the sampling process had been ongoing for two days and that the Jammu and Kashmir police had successfully busted a pan-India terror network, preventing several terror activities across the country. Sinha emphasized that the Nowgam police station incident was an unfortunate accident and not a result of any terror conspiracy or external involvement.
