Chhattisgarh Maoist Encounter: 3 Rebels Slain in Sukma, 262 Killed This Year

In a major anti-Maoist operation, three rebels were killed in a fierce gunfight with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Sunday. The encounter broke out in the forested hills of Bhejji, under the Chintagufa police station area, when a team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) launched an operation based on intelligence inputs about Maoist presence in the region. According to Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sunderraj P, the deceased Maoists were identified as Jan Militia Commander Madvi Deva, a skilled sniper and area committee member, Cultural and Communications (CNM) Commander Podium Gangi, and area committee member and secretary of the Kistaram area, Sodi Gangi. The operation is still ongoing, with three Maoists killed so far. This year, 262 Maoists have been eliminated in encounters across Chhattisgarh, with 233 being killed in the Bastar division, which includes seven districts including Sukma. Twenty-seven others were killed in Gariaband district, while two Maoists were gunned down in Durg division's Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district.
