In a significant development, the Congress party is poised to win the by-election in Telangana's Jubilee Hills assembly constituency in Hyderabad. According to the latest counting updates, Congress candidate Vallala Naveen Yadav is leading by a substantial margin of 19,600 votes over his nearest rival, BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha, in the seventh round of counting. The victory is expected to come as a blow to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which had held the seat. Sunitha, the BRS candidate, is the wife of the late MLA Maganti Gopinath, whose sudden death in June necessitated the by-election. The BJP candidate, Lankala Deepak Reddy, is trailing far behind with just 8,300 votes, making it likely that he will lose his deposit. The low turnout of 48.42% during the polling on November 11, with only 4.01 lakh eligible voters casting their votes, may have contributed to the outcome. The counting is set to continue, but the Congress party is already celebrating the expected victory at its state headquarters in Hyderabad, Gandhi Bhavan.
