The Congress party will hold a massive rally in Delhi's Ramlila Maidan in the first week of December to protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The party claims that the Election Commission's conduct during the SIR process has been "deeply disappointing" and that it is being influenced by the ruling BJP. The party's nationwide signature campaign, which collected five crore signatures, has led to a rally against the 'vote-chori' allegations. A meeting of senior leaders from twelve states, where the SIR process is underway, was held under the presidency of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal were also present. Kharge stated that the Election Commission must demonstrate its independence from the BJP's influence and uphold its Constitutional oath. He alleged that the BJP is attempting to weaponise the SIR process for vote-chori and that the party will not allow democratic safeguards to be eroded by partisan misuse of institutions. Venugopal alleged that the Election Commission is purposefully trying to delete the votes of certain sections of society, citing the example of Bihar. He stated that the SIR process is being rushed through and that some BLOs have committed suicide due to the work pressure. He also accused the Election Commission of ignoring the concerns of the Kerala government and opposition parties. The Congress party has decided to stage a massive rally against the SIR process, alleging that it is a sinister attempt to destroy democracy and opposition parties. The party claims that the Election Commission is working under the BJP's shadow and that the SIR process is being used to delete genuine voters or insert bogus ones.
