A notorious cow smuggler, Siraj Jabbar Khan Ali Meo, with a ₹25,000 reward on his head, was injured during a police encounter near the Haryana-Rajasthan border in Mathura on Saturday. According to DSP Bhushan Verma, the police received a tip-off about the smuggler's presence in the area and attempted to arrest him. However, the accused opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate in self-defense, resulting in a leg injury. The police recovered a motorcycle, a pistol, and two live cartridges from the accused, who has been wanted for cow smuggling since 2016. The DSP confirmed that the accused was taken into custody and referred to the district hospital for treatment. This incident comes on the heels of a series of coordinated operations by the BSF and Punjab Police, which foiled several criminal activities in Punjab's border districts. The authorities apprehended a smuggler and recovered arms and ammunition in separate operations in Gurdaspur and Firozpur. The BSF's swift action prevented miscreants from carrying out criminal activities in the border area of Firozpur, recovering 16 live rounds and a kirpan from the site.
