A recent system failure at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on November 6 caused flight delays for over 800 passengers. According to a report, air traffic controllers had warned about the vulnerability of the airport's automation systems months ago. The ATC Guild of India, a group representing air traffic controllers, claimed that they had suggested upgrading the outdated systems to international standards, similar to those used by Eurocontrol and the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). These advanced systems utilize artificial intelligence, threat detection, and real-time data sharing to enhance aviation safety. However, the guild alleged that their suggestions were ignored. The system failure occurred due to a technical glitch in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which provides flight plans to air traffic controllers. While the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has stated that the issue has been addressed, the incident raises concerns about the safety and reliability of India's aviation infrastructure.
