The Delhi airport, India's busiest air travel hub, has returned to normal operations a day after a technical glitch in its air traffic control system caused significant delays for over 800 flights. The issue, which affected the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), lasted for over 15 hours from 5:45 am on Friday before being resolved by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) at around 9 pm on the same day. According to airport operator DIAL, all flight operations are now back to normal, and passengers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest flight updates. The Indira Gandhi International Airport, which handles over 1,500 flights daily, had experienced delays and cancellations due to the technical issue, impacting hundreds of passengers. IndiGo, India's largest airline, stated that airport operators and air traffic control teams are working to fully restore systems and stabilize operations. The airline warned that some departure and arrival timings may continue to be adjusted over the next few hours. Data from flight tracking website Flightradar24.com showed that over 500 flights were delayed at the airport on Saturday, including arrivals and departures. While the specific reasons for the delays could not be immediately ascertained, officials attributed it to the backlog from Friday's disruptions. The AMSS issue was first detected on November 6, and the AAI deployed additional staff to manually process flight plans to ensure uninterrupted air traffic operations. The issue has now been resolved, and the AMSS systems are functioning normally. However, some backlogs may cause delays in automated operations, but the situation is expected to normalize soon.
