Delhi Police have confirmed that Dr Umar Un Nabi, a 35-year-old doctor from Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, was behind the wheel of the Hyundai i20 car that exploded outside Red Fort on Monday evening. The DNA test, conducted on a severed leg found stuck between the car's accelerator and steering, matched the DNA sample of Nabi's mother. The investigation revealed that Nabi worked as an assistant professor at Al Falah University in Faridabad and was linked to two other suspects, Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganaie and Dr Adeel Rather, who were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir last week for storing a large cache of explosive materials in Faridabad. Nabi had purchased the i20 car 11 days before the blast and was seen with the dealer and his associate. According to police, Nabi panicked and fled to Delhi after the huge cache of explosive material was found on Sunday night. CCTV footage showed him traveling around various areas in Delhi, including Badarpur Border, Connaught Place, and Turkman Gate, before reaching Red Fort. Nabi's mother and her two brothers were detained for questioning and taken for DNA testing. The police probe also revealed that Nabi's other car, a Red Ecosport, was used to carry ammonium nitrate. The investigation suggests that Nabi helped Ganaie by taking explosive material from his rented accommodation and storing it. The DNA evidence is a crucial piece of evidence in the blast probe, linking Nabi's direct role to the explosion and establishing it as a 'heinous terror incident'. The Delhi Police continue to investigate the case and gather more evidence to bring the perpetrators to justice.
