Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has reignited the conversation on Delhi's air pollution crisis by resharing a six-year-old post. The image, originally posted in November 2019, carries a poignant message about the dangers of pollution. Tharoor's caption, 'Six years of indifference later, this post remains sadly, frustratingly relevant still...', highlights the ongoing struggle to tackle the issue. The post, which reads 'How long will you spend your life on cigarettes, bidis, and cigars? Spend a few days in Delhi-NCR instead!', remains a stark reminder of the need for urgent action. Delhi's air quality has consistently been in the 'very poor' category over the past week, with the government implementing measures to mitigate pollution. The Central Pollution Control Board reported an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 361 on November 8, with several areas in the city and National Capital Region (NCR) experiencing 'poor' and 'very poor' air quality since Diwali. To reduce traffic congestion and pollution, the National Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has doubled parking fees, and working hours have been changed by the Delhi government and DMC. Delhi Chief Minister has announced that working hours will be adjusted to minimize air pollution levels, which are expected to rise between November 15, 2025, and February 15, 2025. The AQI plummeted to 'hazardous' levels on November 7, with a reading of 727 in the city, according to data from Swiss monitor IQ Air. Wind activity has contributed to the post-festival pollution in Delhi, emphasizing the need for a sustained effort to address the issue.
