Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has highlighted the alarming rise in pollution levels in the national capital, largely attributed to PM10 emissions from construction activities, dusty roads, and traffic congestion. The government is intensifying efforts to identify and address pollution hotspots, with 62 areas already pinpointed as major contributors to the city's poor air quality. Sirsa pointed out that the city's sanitation systems and road conditions require significant improvement to mitigate the deteriorating air quality. The onset of winter has exacerbated the situation, with accumulated dust transforming into smog. To tackle the issue, the minister has identified 10 major polluting factors, including stubble burning, which he expects to decline as the sowing season approaches. Delhi continues to grapple with emissions from industrial units relocated to neighboring regions, with border areas still feeling the impact. The Delhi government is working to address this issue, even as the city's average Air Quality Index (AQI) entered the 'severe' category for the first time this season on November 11. Although the AQI improved slightly to the 'very poor' category on Friday, the crisis remains a pressing concern.
