A 62-year-old Bengaluru resident, Rajiv, has been arrested for sending a threatening email to the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) on November 13. The email warned that he would blow up a metro station if he found out that BMRCL employees were 'mentally torturing' his ex-wife, Padmini, after work hours. According to police, Rajiv has a history of mental illness and has been undergoing treatment at Nimhans in Bengaluru for the past five years. His ex-wife, Padmini, is not a BMRCL employee, as claimed in the email. Rajiv had been separated from Padmini for 15 years. The email, sent from a personal Gmail account, read: 'If ever I come to know that your metro employees are torturing mentally to my past divorced wife Padmini after duty hours, be careful, one of your metro station gets blasted...' The police have registered a case under Section 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (criminal intimidation). This incident comes as a recent development in a series of hoax bomb threats faced by Bengaluru in recent months. In June, a software professional was accused of sending multiple fake threat emails to schools in the city.
