A devastating blast rocked the Nowgam police station in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar outskirts on Friday night, claiming at least nine lives. The explosion, which occurred during the handling of seized explosives, also left several police personnel and forensic officials injured. The blast is believed to have occurred while authorities were attempting to extract samples from a massive cache of explosives seized from a rented house in Faridabad, Haryana. The material, weighing 360 kilograms, was found in the residence of arrested doctor Muzammil Ganaie, who was part of a 'white-collar' terror module. The explosives were being sampled as part of an investigation into the terror module, which had been busted earlier. A primary case for the terror module had been registered at the police station, where the seized material was stored. The blast damaged the building and injured security personnel, who were later hospitalized. This incident comes weeks after posters threatening police officials and security personnel were found in Nowgam in mid-October. An investigation was launched, and three suspects were identified and arrested. The questioning of the suspects led to the arrest of a former paramedic-turned-imam from Shopian, who was involved in radicalizing doctors. The terror module in Faridabad has been linked to a blast in Delhi's Red Fort, which claimed 11 lives. The National Investigation Agency was brought into the probe, and at least four doctors linked to the terror module were identified. Three of the detained doctors were believed to have been in frequent contact with the driver of the car that exploded in Delhi. The Al-Falah University in Faridabad has been at the center of the investigation, with three of its doctors already arrested or named in the investigation. The scrutiny of the university has intensified, given the connections to the terror module and the recent blast in Nowgam.
