A Delhi court has delivered a stern verdict against a former BSF head constable, sentencing him to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting a five-year-old minor in 2016. The court deemed the crime an 'aggravated form of predatory exploitation', citing the accused's 'depraved mentality' in preying on the child's innocence and helplessness. In its November 10 order, the Additional Sessions Judge noted that the accused's reprehensible conduct, which involved kidnapping the child from a park, warranted severe condemnation and punishment. The court aimed to uphold the dignity of the victim and safeguard others from similar predatory behavior. The judge imposed a 10-year sentence under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and a concurrent five-year sentence for kidnapping. The court also ordered ₹7.75 lakh as compensation for the child's trauma and mental injury. The sentence sends a strong message about society's commitment to protecting its most vulnerable members and upholds the rule of law in cases of heinous child abuse.
