A 43-year-old government medical lecturer in Kanpur, Dr. Shaheen Shahid, has been arrested for her alleged involvement in a terror module that spans from Kashmir to Delhi. Born and raised in Lucknow, Shaheen had always dreamed of becoming a doctor. She achieved her goal by securing a position at GSVM Medical College in Kanpur through the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission examination in 2006. However, her promising career took a turn for the worse. After working diligently for three years, Shaheen developed differences with a senior colleague, leading to her transfer to Kannauj in 2009. She returned to Kanpur within six months but eventually stopped reporting to duty altogether. Despite repeated attempts by the college to reach out to her, Shaheen remained unresponsive, ultimately leading to her dismissal in 2021. Shaheen's personal life also took a downward spiral. She divorced her husband, an ophthalmologist, in 2015 and isolated herself from her family and colleagues. For the past six years, she had not returned to her ancestral home in Lucknow. Investigators claim that Shaheen was living with Dr. Muzammil Ahmad Ganaia, a key accused in the terror module, in Faridabad. Her younger brother, Dr. Parvez Ansari, was also arrested for his alleged links to the same network. The news of Shaheen's arrest has left her neighbors and former colleagues stunned. 'She was quiet, polite, and deeply private,' said a neighbor, recalling their interactions with Shaheen. Former colleagues described her as intelligent but increasingly withdrawn in her later years. 'We never imagined her life would take this turn,' said a senior doctor at GSVM.
