In a shocking case of domestic violence, a woman in Gujarat's Surat district was critically injured after being shot in the head by her husband's friend. Sonal Solanki, a range forest officer, was on her way to a village in a car on November 6 when Ishwarpuri Goswami, allegedly acting on behalf of her husband Nikunj Goswami, opened fire on her point-blank. The attack initially seemed like a car accident, but doctors found a bullet lodged in Solanki's head while operating on her. A case of attempted murder was subsequently registered. Nikunj Goswami and his friend had fled to evade arrest, but were eventually caught when they came to surrender before a court in Kathor on Wednesday. According to police, the motive behind the attack was an ongoing domestic dispute, with Solanki having previously filed a complaint against her husband for using a GPS tracker on her car. In a chilling confession, Nikunj Goswami revealed that he had orchestrated the attack after conducting reconnaissance on Solanki's regular route. Ishwarpuri Goswami then followed Solanki's car and waylaid it at a secluded spot, forcing her to stop before opening fire. Solanki is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital and is in a critical condition. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the disturbing trend of domestic violence in Gujarat.
