The counting of votes is underway for the Harnaut constituency in Bihar, with the Election Commission of India set to announce the results on November 14. Harnaut, one of the 243 assembly constituencies in the state, recorded a voter turnout of 59.12% in the first phase of polling on November 6. The sitting MLA, Hari Narayan Singh of the Janata Dal United, is seeking re-election after winning the seat in 2020 by a margin of 27,241 votes. The Harnaut constituency has seen a multi-cornered contest, with candidates from the Aam Aadmi Party, Bharatiya Party (Loktantrik), Indian National Congress, Jan Suraaj Party, Jantantrik Lokhit Party, Rashtriya Sanatan Party, Vikas Vanchit Insan Party, and several independent candidates in the fray. The state is currently in turmoil, with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar facing a growing challenge from the opposition ahead of the assembly elections. The NDA, led by the BJP and JD(U), narrowly retained power in the 2020 assembly elections, but faces a strong challenge from the RJD-Congress-led India bloc, led by Tejashwi Yadav. The Jan Suraaj Party, led by Prashant Kishor, is making its debut by contesting all 243 seats. As the results begin to trickle in, the fate of Nitish Kumar and his JD(U)-BJP alliance hangs in the balance, amidst a fierce battle for power in the state.
