Bengaluru: In a significant development, the Karnataka High Court has begun hearing the appeal of Prajwal Revanna, a former JD MP convicted of rape. Revanna's counsel, Senior Advocate Sidharth Luthra, has argued that the trial court's verdict was influenced by a media narrative and lacked concrete evidence. Luthra pointed out contradictions in witness statements and claimed that the trial judge was swayed by the survivor's emotional state during questioning. The defence team has also raised concerns about the delay in reporting the offence and the handling of evidence, including the chain of custody and storage of seized samples. They alleged that key officers were not examined and that unusual procedures were carried out by medical board witnesses during the investigation. Revanna has been in custody for over a year, and his counsel has sought interim bail, citing the weak prosecution case. The High Court will continue hearing the appeal on November 25. The case involves allegations of rape against a 48-year-old woman who worked at the Revanna family's farmhouse in Hassan district. The trial court relied on video footage, DNA analysis, and biological traces to convict Revanna, who is facing charges in four separate cases, including rape and sexual harassment.
