A low-pressure area brewing over the southwest Bay of Bengal is set to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to isolated areas in Chennai and Tamil Nadu. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several districts, including Villupuram, Chennai, and Puducherry, warning of possible disruptions. According to IMD's forecast for November 17, heavy to very heavy rainfall can be expected in Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Puducherry, Thoothukudi, and Kanyakumari districts. In addition to the heavy rain warning, a low-pressure area has been formed over the Bay of Bengal, prompting the IMD to issue a yellow alert for Thoothukudi, Madurai, Nilgiris, and Sivagangai. The entire state of Kerala has also been issued a yellow alert. The recent weather patterns are a reminder of the widespread rain that hit Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu last month. In response, the state government has been working to improve waterways and infrastructure in the region. Fishermen have been advised to exercise caution and avoid venturing near the sea during this period, as squally weather and strong winds are expected to prevail along the Tamil Nadu coast. The IMD has forecasted wind speeds of up to 45 kmph in some areas.
