A devastating crash on the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway in Pune left seven people dead and over a dozen injured on Thursday evening. The incident occurred on Navale Bridge, a notorious accident-prone stretch. According to police, a large container truck lost control due to suspected brake failure and collided with multiple vehicles, including a mini-bus and another container truck. A car became trapped between the two trucks, suffering severe damage. The impact sparked a massive fire that engulfed the three vehicles. A majority of the injured were traveling in the mini-bus. Authorities quickly responded to the scene, deploying eight fire tenders and tankers to extinguish the blaze. The charred remains of seven victims were recovered, including two from a truck and five from the car. Officials suspect that the CNG kit in the car may have exploded following the collision, leading to the fire. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has condemned the accident, announcing a ₹5 lakh ex-gratia to the families of the deceased. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing, with ambulances, cranes, and JCBs deployed to assist the injured and clear the wreckage from the highway.
