Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and one of India's most-wanted organised crime fugitives, has been deported from the US. The deportation marks a significant breakthrough for Indian agencies that have been pursuing him in multiple high-profile cases, including the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique and the firing outside actor Salman Khan's residence. Bishnoi, a native of Punjab's Fazilka district, had been on the run since fleeing India on a forged passport in 2021. He had travelled through various countries, including Nepal, Dubai, and Kenya, before reaching the US, where he was last seen at an event in Bakersfield, California in April 2023. According to investigators, Bishnoi's arrest earlier this year set in motion the deportation process, which concluded on Tuesday. The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement took him into custody for his fake passport and lodged him in Pottawattamie County jail in Iowa. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has declared Bishnoi 'most wanted' and announced a reward of ₹10 lakh for information that could lead to his capture. He faces at least 18 criminal cases in India, including conspiracy to murder Baba Siddique, the firing outside Salman Khan's residence, and the killing of Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moosewala. A senior NIA official said that Bishnoi functioned as Lawrence Bishnoi's principal overseas agent, directing extortion rackets, issuing threats, and coordinating assignments through encrypted channels. His presence abroad helped the syndicate build links with criminal groups across West Asia, East Africa, and North America. With Bishnoi's confirmed deportation, the NIA is now preparing to take his formal custody. The agency believes that his return could unlock crucial details about the Bishnoi syndicate's global operations and reshape several ongoing terror, murder, and extortion investigations. Baba Siddique's son Zeeshan, a former lawmaker from the Congress, has welcomed Bishnoi's deportation and urged the Mumbai Police to arrest and question him to find the motive behind his father's killing. Zeeshan also called for Bishnoi to be brought back to India, citing him as a threat to society. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is also probing the gang's activities under the prevention of money laundering act (PMLA). Bishnoi's return is expected to face justice for his alleged crimes in India.
