India and Russia are intensifying efforts to finalize key agreements and projects before Russian President Vladimir Putin's highly anticipated visit to New Delhi next month. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar made the announcement following a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow, where they discussed a range of bilateral initiatives and the complex global landscape. Jaishankar emphasized the significance of the upcoming summit, stating that several agreements and projects are nearing completion in various fields. These developments will further strengthen India-Russia's special and privileged strategic partnership, he added. The meeting with Lavrov comes as India faces increasing pressure from the US to reduce its reliance on Russian energy and military hardware. However, Jaishankar stressed that India-Russia ties have long been a cornerstone of stability in international relations, and their growth is in the mutual interest of both nations as well as the global community. The two ministers also touched on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, and Afghanistan. Jaishankar expressed support for recent efforts towards establishing peace and emphasized the need for a constructive approach to achieve a lasting resolution. Lavrov, meanwhile, described the partnership with India as a top priority for Russia and highlighted efforts to boost economic cooperation between the two nations. The Russian side is also working to mitigate the impact of Western sanctions on trade between India and Russia. Putin's visit to India, scheduled for the first week of December, is expected to further enhance bilateral ties and provide a platform for both leaders to address pressing global issues.
