India's military confrontation with Pakistan in May, code-named Operation Sindoor, showcases the country's precision strike capabilities and adaptability in modern warfare. Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan highlighted the operation as a 'compelling example' of how technology can be leveraged to achieve success on the battlefield. The four-day operation, launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, demonstrates the Indian military's ability to deploy precision strike capabilities, network-centric operations, and multi-domain tactics within a compressed time frame. Operation Sindoor involved fighter jets, missiles, armed drones, and an intense artillery duel, showcasing the Indian military's capacity to integrate advanced technologies and tactics to achieve strategic objectives. General Chauhan emphasized the importance of adapting to evolving realities and leveraging technological superiority to determine success on the battlefield. He noted that modern warfare is being reshaped by rapid innovation, strategic partnerships, and organisational transformation within the armed forces. The Delhi Defence Dialogue, where General Chauhan made his remarks, brought together policymakers, researchers, industry leaders, and academia to discuss the impact of technology on modern warfare and how it can be harnessed to enhance India's defence capabilities. The event's director general, Sujan Chinoy, highlighted the transformative role of technology in shaping modern defence capabilities, emphasizing the transition from the industrial to the information and cyber age. Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and quantum physics are becoming crucial determinants in warfare and security, he said.
