India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is set to visit Canada on November 12 to participate in the G7 foreign ministers' meeting, marking a significant step towards normalizing bilateral relations. This visit comes just over two months after India and Canada appointed new high commissioners in each other's capitals, following a diplomatic dispute over the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June 2023. During his visit, Jaishankar will join the outreach session of the meeting for G7 partners in Ontario, invited by Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand. He is also expected to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the G7 gathering. The visit reflects India's commitment to working with international partners to address global challenges and strengthen the voice of the Global South in international forums. The G7 meeting will focus on pressing global economic and security issues, with Canada's foreign ministry highlighting the importance of cooperation among nations to address these challenges. As part of the outreach partners, Australia, Brazil, India, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, South Korea, South Africa, and Ukraine will also be attending the meeting. Jaishankar's visit marks the third interaction between him and Anand in two months, following their meetings in September at the UN General Assembly in New York and in New Delhi during Anand's visit. The two leaders previously unveiled a roadmap to reset ties and agreed to resume trade and investment discussions, paving the way for a renewed partnership between the two nations.
