JD(U) candidate Sunil Kumar is currently leading in the Bhore assembly seat, with a significant margin of over 10,414 votes. Kumar, a former IPS officer and Bihar's Education Minister, is facing a tough three-way contest against CPI(ML) Liberation's Dhananjay Kumar and Jansuraj Party's Preeti Kinnar. The latter is contesting as a third-gender candidate, representing Prashant Kishore's party. Bhore is one of the 121 seats in 18 districts that went to polls in the first phase of the Bihar elections on November 6. The results will be declared on November 14. Sunil Kumar, who completed his Master's in History from St. Stephen's College, New Delhi, in 1984, has a long-standing connection with the constituency. He comes from a family of politicians and bureaucrats, with his father being a veteran Congress leader and minister. Kumar's opponents, Dhananjay Kumar and Preeti Kinnar, bring their own unique strengths to the contest. Dhananjay Kumar, a former JNU president, is backed by the Mahagathbandhan, while Preeti Kinnar, who first gained prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic, has been living and serving in Bhore for the past eight years. The constituency has a history of close contests, with JD(U) having won only once in the past. In 2020, Kumar narrowly defeated CPI(ML)(L)'s Jitendra Paswan by just 462 votes. The tight contest was influenced by the LJP splitting the anti-incumbency vote, though it fell short of unseating JD(U) across Bihar. As the results unfold, one thing is clear: Bhore will be a seat to watch in the Bihar elections.
