Karnataka, Bavaria Chart New Course for Enhanced Cooperation

In a significant development, Karnataka and the German state of Bavaria have identified areas for strengthened bilateral ties and investment. Minister M B Patil announced plans to create a detailed roadmap to advance this collaboration, citing the states' shared potential in key sectors such as information technology, aerospace, and research and development. During a meeting with a high-level Bavarian delegation, led by Ilse Aigner, President of the Bavarian State Parliament, Minister Patil highlighted Karnataka's notable progress in these areas. The delegation expressed interest in designating Karnataka as a "privileged partner" of Bavaria, with a focus on areas like supercomputing and quantum technologies. Karnataka has taken a proactive approach in this regard, having formulated an exclusive quantum technology policy. The presence of Lam Research in the state has created opportunities for collaboration. Bavaria, a global leader in supercomputing and quantum technologies, has maintained a representative office in Bengaluru for nearly two decades. The delegation was impressed by the high number of young women pursuing technical education in Karnataka, with over 200 Indian companies currently operating in Germany and more than 2,000 German firms present in India. The meeting also saw discussions on potential academic partnerships between Bavarian universities and local institutions, with a possibility of setting up campuses in the upcoming KWIN City. Karnataka Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh briefed the delegation on the state's women-centric policies and commitment to democratic values of equality. The 28th edition of the Bengaluru Tech Summit, which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, is expected to further enhance cooperation in deep tech, manufacturing, and research and development between Karnataka and Bavaria.
