The Karnataka government has welcomed the Supreme Court's decision to reject Tamil Nadu's challenge to the Mekedattu dam project on the Cauvery river. The court dismissed the plea as 'premature', citing the Central Water Commission and Cauvery Water Management Authority's ongoing review of the project's draft pre-feasibility report. State law and parliamentary affairs minister HK Patil hailed the verdict as a 'go-ahead' for preparatory work, while deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar described it as a 'victory for Cauvery riparian states', including Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. The cabinet also approved a new IT policy, which aims to invest ₹445.5 crore over five years to boost Karnataka's digital economy and nurture tech clusters beyond Bengaluru. The policy framework seeks balanced growth by supporting emerging tech hubs in cities like Mysuru, Mangaluru, and Hubballi-Dharwad. Additionally, the cabinet announced the winter session of the state legislature, scheduled to begin on December 8 in Belagavi.
