Kerala Prison Officer Stabbed by Inmates with Sharpened Tiles: Investigation Launched

A serious incident unfolded at the High Security Prison in Viyyoor, Kerala, when a prison official was stabbed by two inmates using sharpened tiles. Abhinav, an Assistant Prison Officer, suffered severe injuries to his chest and hands after being attacked by Azaruddin and Manoj, who were being held in the prison for crimes related to terrorism and anti-social activities. According to the police report, the incident occurred on Thursday at around 5:20 pm when Abhinav ordered Azaruddin and Manoj to return to their cells. Azaruddin allegedly stabbed Abhinav in the neck with a sharpened tile, and both inmates then assaulted and attacked him with keys. Another inmate, Rejikumar, attempted to intervene but was also attacked by the duo. The prison officials swiftly responded to the situation, overpowering the accused and rushing Abhinav and Rejikumar to the hospital. The inmates were subsequently locked in their cells, and Viyyoor police have registered a case against them under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Abhinav's condition is currently stable, and the police have assured that the accused will be formally arrested and produced before the court for remand proceedings soon. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the authorities are taking necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of the prison officials and inmates.
