In a significant boost to business, tourism, and connectivity, the Southern Railway has introduced its first inter-state semi-high-speed premium service, the Ernakulam-KSR Bengaluru Vande Bharat. This train, flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is set to revolutionize travel between the three states. The eight-coach train will cover major cities in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, such as Thrissur, Palakkad, Coimbatore, and Salem, before reaching its final destination in Bengaluru. With a journey time of just 8 hours and 40 minutes, the Vande Bharat will significantly cut travel time, which currently takes over 11 hours. The train will offer a premium onboard experience, complete with features like GPS-based infotainment, bio-vacuum toilets, and Wi-Fi. With fares starting at ₹1,095 for chair car seats and ₹2,289 for executive class seats, the Vande Bharat is poised to become a popular choice for travelers. The introduction of this train is expected to boost business and tourism in the region, with officials highlighting its potential to support travel for business, education, tourism, pilgrimage, and healthcare. As part of the Railway Ministry's efforts to expand the Vande Bharat network, this train will join over 164 Vande Bharat trains operating across the country. Regular operations for the Ernakulam-KSR Bengaluru Vande Bharat will commence on November 9, 2025, with the train running six days a week, except Wednesdays. The train will depart Bengaluru at 5:10 am and reach Ernakulam at 1:50 pm, while the return service will depart Ernakulam at 2:20 pm and reach Bengaluru at 11 pm.
