Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has expressed deep disappointment with the Election Commission's handling of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, alleging it has been compromised by the BJP's influence. In a statement, Kharge reiterated the Congress party's commitment to safeguarding the integrity of electoral rolls and preventing 'vote chori' - a term used to describe voter suppression or manipulation. Kharge claimed that the BJP is attempting to exploit the SIR process to disenfranchise genuine voters and insert fake ones. He urged the Election Commission to demonstrate its independence and adhere to its constitutional oath, rather than bowing to pressure from the ruling party. The Congress party, along with other opposition parties in the Mahagathbandhan, suffered a significant defeat in the recent Bihar assembly polls, winning only six seats. The party has accused the BJP of large-scale voter suppression, with Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh stating that the election results reflect 'vote chori on a gigantic scale.' Kharge announced that the Congress party will remain vigilant and expose any attempts to manipulate the electoral rolls, emphasizing the party's resolve to protect democracy and the Constitution. The party has vowed to continue its campaign to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process and prevent partisan misuse of institutions.
