RAIPUR: A fierce gunfight between Maoists and security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of six Maoists. The operation, which began around 10 am in the Indravati National Park area, was a joint effort between District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel from Bijapur and Dantewada districts and the Special Task Force (STF). According to Bijapur superintendent of police (SP) Jitendra Yadav, the security forces retrieved bodies of six Maoists and seized automatic weapons, including an INSAS rifle and explosives, during the encounter. The Maoist identities have not been confirmed. As the operation continues, additional teams of central and state police forces have been deployed in the area. Tuesday's encounter brings the total number of Maoists killed this year to 259, with 230 eliminated in the Bastar division and the remaining 29 killed in other districts. This incident marks the latest in a series of anti-Maoist operations in the region, following the deaths of two top Maoist leaders, Raju Dada and Kosa Dada, in Narayanpur district on September 22.
