SHILLONG, MEGHALAYA: The trial of Raja Raghuvanshi's murder case has begun in the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Shillong. The case involves the killing of an Indore businessman during his honeymoon in Meghalaya earlier this year. The trial started with the examination of Vipin Raghuvanshi, the brother of the victim and formal complainant in the case. Five people, including Raja's widow Sonam Raghuvanshi and her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha, have been arrested and charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Special Public Prosecutor KC Gautam expressed confidence in the police case, stating that the prosecution evidence is solid and watertight. The trial will proceed with the examination of over 90 witnesses, as detailed in the 790-page charge sheet filed by the Sohra Police in July. The case relates to the gruesome murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, who was found dead in a gorge near Wei Sawdong Falls on June 2, 2025. The police investigation revealed a conspiracy involving Sonam Raghuvanshi and Raj Kushwaha, who allegedly hired killers to carry out the crime. The trial's progression will now focus on the witness testimonies, which are expected to shed more light on one of Meghalaya's most high-profile and chilling cases. The police are also preparing a supplementary charge sheet to cover the remaining aspects of the investigation, which is expected to be filed by the third week of November.
