Mizoram CM Pledges Support for Cooperative Societies and MSMEs

Aizawl, Mizoram - In a bid to promote local products and strengthen the cooperative sector, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has assured his government's commitment to supporting cooperative societies and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Speaking at the 72nd All India Cooperative Week, Lalduhoma emphasized the importance of cooperative spirit in Mizoram's culture, citing the state's tradition of collective labor, unity, and mutual support. The Mizoram Procurement Preference Policy for Small & Medium Enterprises 2025 has recently come into effect, aiming to promote local products. The CM praised the Mizoram Milk Producers' Cooperative Union for its efforts to maximize local milk production, and hailed the Mizoram Apex Handloom and Handicraft Cooperative Society Ltd for its goal of making Mizo handloom products nationally recognized. Lalduhoma also commended the Mizoram State Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry and Marketing Cooperative Federation Limited for its efforts to enhance the cooperative sector by supporting farmers, producers, and entrepreneurs. The event was attended by Cooperation Minister PC Vanlalruata. With over 1,500 primary cooperative societies and 13 state-level cooperative federations or unions in place, Mizoram is actively promoting and strengthening the cooperative movement, aligning with the United Nations' declaration of the International Year of Cooperatives. The All India Cooperative Week is observed annually from November 14-20 to promote the cooperative movement, which started in 1954.
