Aizawl: The Mizo National Front (MNF) has successfully retained the Dampa assembly seat in Mizoram's by-elections, which took place on November 11, 2025. The party's vice-president, R Lalthangliana, secured 40% of the total 14,593 votes cast, defeating Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) candidate Vanlalsailova by a margin of 562 votes. Lalthangliana attributed his victory to 'God Almighty,' stating that he was merely an instrument in the will of the people. The by-election was necessary due to the passing of the sitting MLA, Lalrintluanga Sailo, on July 21 this year. A total of 83.07% of the 20,888 eligible voters exercised their right to vote. Of the five candidates contesting the election, Lalthangliana received 6,981 votes, while Vanlalsailova secured 6,419 votes. John Rotluanglina from the Congress party received 2,394 votes, and Lalhmingthanga from the BJP secured 1,541 votes. MNF media and publicity secretary Lallenmawia Jongte attributed their victory to the party's efforts and the people's trust in MNF. Jongte believes that this win will be a stepping stone for MNF's success in the upcoming Lai Autonomous District Council and Aizawl Municipal Corporation elections, marking the beginning of ZPM's decline and MNF's resurgence.
