Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up a two-day visit to Bhutan, strengthening ties between the two nations. During his trip, Modi participated in the Kalachakra initiation ceremony at the Global Peace Prayer Festival in Thimphu, where he met with Bhutan's former king Jigme Singye Wangchuck and joined the country's top leadership for a special ritual. As a sign of solidarity, Modi expressed his appreciation for Jigme Singye's efforts in fostering India-Bhutan relations, citing the progress in the Gelephu Mindfulness City Project, which aligns with India's Act East Policy. Modi also inaugurated the 'Kālacakra Wheel of Time Empowerment' with Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and former king Jigme Singye. India reaffirmed its commitment to Bhutan's 13th five-year plan, pledging ₹10,000 crore to support the country's development priorities and sustainable growth. The plan includes an economic stimulus programme and backing for the Gelephu Mindfulness City, a key economic hub near the Assam border. Modi's visit also witnessed the inauguration of the 1,020-MW Punatsangchhu-II hydroelectric project, and a joint understanding was reached to resume work on the 1,200-MW Punatsangchhu-I project. The two countries agreed to work towards its speedy completion, which will be the largest joint hydroelectric project developed by India and Bhutan. India and Bhutan also agreed to enhance cross-border connectivity, improve border infrastructure, and bolster bilateral ties through the operationalisation of immigration check posts and inland waterways terminals. The two sides welcomed the supply of the first consignment of fertilisers from India under a new arrangement, ensuring uninterrupted supply of essential commodities to Bhutan. King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck personally escorted Modi to the airport, marking the end of the Prime Minister's successful visit to Bhutan.
