Mumbai faced a severe CNG shortage on Sunday after a critical pipeline was damaged, leaving thousands of vehicles without fuel. The disruption, caused by third-party damage to the main gas pipeline inside the RCF compound, affected the supply to Mahanagar Gas's City Gate Station at Wadala. As a result, CNG stations across Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai were forced to shut down, causing long queues at functional pumps. According to reports, a trip that typically costs between ₹400-₹450 rose to ₹550 and later crossed ₹600 on aggregator platforms like Ola and Uber. Petrol Dealers Association president Chetan Modi stated that many pumps have been non-functional since morning due to low gas supply pressure. To mitigate the issue, MGL advised its industrial and commercial customers in the affected areas to switch to alternate fuel. The shortage is expected to be resolved once the damage to the pipeline is rectified. Meanwhile, the city's 130-140 CNG pumps, including MGL's own facilities, remain affected. The situation has left thousands of commuters stranded, with many CNG-run vehicles, including autorickshaws, taxis, and buses, unable to operate.
