A critical pipeline rupture has disrupted the compressed natural gas (CNG) supply to Mumbai, affecting public transportation and autorickshaw services. The incident occurred when a main gas pipeline owned by GAIL was damaged inside the RCF compound. According to Mahangar Gas Limited (MGL), the pipeline damage has halted gas supply to its City Gate Station (CGS) at Wadala, impacting CNG stations across Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai. This, in turn, has disrupted services for buses under the city's public transport undertakings and a majority of autorickshaws and taxis, including those associated with Uber and Ola. However, MGL has ensured uninterrupted supply to its piped natural gas (PNG) consumers in residential areas. Industries and commercial enterprises reliant on gas supply have been advised to switch to alternative fuels temporarily. Fortunately, the gas supply was restored to CNG stations in the evening after the damage was rectified, and normalcy is expected to return to MGL's network soon.
