A Mumbai court on Tuesday framed charges against former Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik and other accused in a money laundering case linked to fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim. Malik, who pleaded not guilty, will now face trial under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The case against Malik revolves around an FIR filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) against Dawood Ibrahim and his associates. As per the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) allegations, Malik conspired with Ibrahim's network (D-Company) to launder proceeds from the unauthorized acquisition of a Kurla property, known as Goawala Compound. The property was allegedly registered in the name of a company owned by Malik's family members. Malik was arrested in 2022 and is currently out on bail due to medical reasons. The trial is expected to shed light on the extent of Malik's involvement in the case.
